A significant component of the Holiday Lights Festival is the campaign to “Shine the Light on Hunger.” Back for a third year, the ConAgra Foods ice rink provides a family-friendly attraction to the Holiday Lights Festival while mobilizing the community in an effort to give back to those in need.
As presenting sponsor of the Holiday Lights Festival, ConAgra Foods will construct a temporary ice-skating rink on its campus. Admission is $5 and includes skate rental. All proceeds from the ConAgra Foods skating rink will be donated to Food Bank for the Heartland. The ConAgra Foods Foundation will match ice rink donations dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000.
The public is encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items and household goods to drop into collection bins, which will be distributed to families in need by Food Bank for the Heartland.
In addition to public skating, special performances at the rink will be provided to the public, free of charge, by skaters from the Figure Skating Club and the Blade & Edge Figure Skating Club as they combine their talents to give two great performances on December 20 at 5 p.m. and December 21 at 7 p.m. Club skaters from ages two through adult will be taking to the ice in holiday-inspired costumes paired with traditional holiday music. Advanced skaters will be highlighted with a special group performance that will send the crowd jumping and spinning with them into the holiday spirit. Even a skating Santa will be making a special appearance.
Please note: All skaters must sign a liability waiver in the admission tent before ice skating at the ConAgra Foods skating rink. For skaters under the age of 19, a parent or guardian must sign this waiver on their behalf.
